Chapter 3: Database objects

In this chapter, all supported objects will be detailed through their respective editing forms. Basically, pgModeler works with most of the objects handled by PostgreSQL. For each object created in the database model, a DDL command is generated. However, there are a few unsupported objects, namely: text search related objects, access methods, publications, statistics, and subscriptions. These missing objects may be added in future releases of the tool. Additionally, mechanisms implemented by pgModeler to achieve certain results or simulate some of PostgreSQL's behavior will be described in this chapter too.

The objects are grouped by function, and the page Common tabs and fields describes what every editing form has in common:

  • Core structure: the database, schemas, tables (with columns and constraints), relationships, indexes, views and sequences. Start here.
  • Programming: functions, procedures, triggers, event triggers, rules, aggregates, languages and transforms.
  • Types and operators: domains, user-defined types, casts, collations, conversions, operators, operator classes and operator families.
  • Security and storage: roles, permissions, policies and tablespaces.
  • Integration: extensions, foreign data wrappers, foreign servers, foreign tables and user mappings.
  • Modeling aids: textboxes, tags and generic SQL objects.
